Whitehaven Beach Tours From Hamilton Island

Two Whitehaven Beach tours leave Hamilton Island: a 4-hour Hill Inlet dash from US$137 and a full day with snorkelling from US$196. How they compare with the Airlie Beach days.

Updated October 2026

From Hamilton Island, Ocean Rafting runs two Whitehaven Beach tours: a four-hour dash to the beach and the Hill Inlet Lookout from US$137 a person, and a six-and-a-half-hour day that adds reef snorkelling, from US$196 (GetYourGuide, October 2026).

Check dates for the Hamilton Island dash

Both leave from the island itself and both say they only suit guests staying on Hamilton. The ride is shorter than from the mainland, 45 minutes to an hour each way, which is why a half day is possible here at all.

The half-day dash

The Whitehaven Beach, Hill Inlet and Lookout Dash is the one to book if you have a morning or an afternoon. The itinerary runs 45 minutes out on the water, half an hour at Hill Inlet itself, an hour on the guided national park walk to the lookout, an hour of free time on Whitehaven, and 45 minutes back. Morning or afternoon tea and a sunsuit are included; water is from a refill station, so bring a bottle. It is from US$137 a person, rated 4.9 so far from 14 reviews, as a newer listing.

Powerd by GetYourGuide

What sets it apart from most Airlie Beach days is the inlet itself: Ocean Rafting lands on the Hill Inlet beaches as well as walking you up to the lookout. One reviewer would have liked longer on that sand before the walk. The listing says it is not suitable if you are pregnant, have back problems or are prone to seasickness, and strollers are not allowed.

The full day with snorkelling

The Full Day Whitehaven Beach and Snorkel adds what the dash leaves out: about two hours on Whitehaven, an hour and a half of guided snorkelling on a fringing reef, and a picnic lunch, for US$196. The lookout walk and the time at Hill Inlet are the same. Non-swimmers should pick the dash, which the listing makes clear, and so should anyone short of time.

Hamilton Island or Airlie Beach?

Map of the Whitsunday Islands showing Hamilton Island, Airlie Beach's Coral Sea Marina and Shute Harbour, Whitehaven Beach and the Hill Inlet Lookout
Hamilton Island sits much closer to Whitehaven than the mainland harbours at Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour.

If you are staying on Hamilton, take one of these two: crossing to Airlie Beach for a mainland tour costs you more of the day than it saves. If you are choosing where to stay and Whitehaven is the point of the trip, the comparison is less clear-cut.

Both Hamilton tours include a sunsuit. From roughly November to May, when box jellyfish and Irukandji can be in the water, swim in a full-body suit; the stinger season guide explains why it matters at Whitehaven.
